About Rainer

Rainer Cocron, violinist & specialist for fine stringed instruments, is Head of Sales at Ingles & Hayday

Born in Salzburg, Austria, Rainer grew up in one of the world’s musical capitals and studied the violin at the University Mozarteum with Igor Ozim, Wonji Kim, Klara Flieder-Pantillon and Reinhard Goebel.

His interest in fine string instruments spans most of his life – he completed his first internship with a violin maker at the age of 13, followed by many more.

During the last decade Rainer has been working not only as a violinist but as a specialist for fine stringed instruments, travelling the world to value and authenticate them. He joined Ingles & Hayday in London as their head of sales in 2016.

Since then he has been involved in selling some of the world’s finest instruments, including makers such as Stradivari, Guarneri del Gesù and Amati. Rainer oversees instrument restoration at Ingles & Hayday. His background as a professional violinist gives him an expert ear for optimising the set-up of stringed instruments.

He is a regular contributor to The Strad magazine and interviews with him have been published in specialist literature such as The Smithsonian Magazine. Rainer has been invited to give talks and lectures, most recently at the Musikfestival Radebeul where he will return as one of the soloists alongside Fedor Rudin and Albrecht Menzel for the 2025 season.

An active player himself, Rainer performs as a part of festivals, various UK ensembles and the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra. To date, he has shared the stage with soloists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Lisa Batiashvili, Martha Argerich, Evgeny Kissin, Maxim Vengerov, Yefim Bronfman, and many others.

Larsen Il Cannone Silver

“Il Cannone Silver really are the missing link between the Il Cannone Gold and the Il Cannone Soloist sets. The name is spot on as I do perceive particularly silvery overtones which are brilliant and bright yet the strings retain depth and a rich palette of colours at the core. I do not have to make any compromises using this set and haven’t come across any instrument that wasn’t improved by it!”
